Our entire lives we are told what our gender, our orientation, our sexuality is, will be, and what it should look like.

You are a boy. You are a girl. This is how you will dress, act, speak, play. This is who you can be naked with and who you cannot. This is who you can be friends with and who you cannot. This is who you can love and what that love looks like. This is what you can do, should do, ought to do with your sexuality, and what you cannot, should not, ought not to do. This is how, when, and where you can talk about who you are, and where you are expected to be quiet.

We are told our entire lives what our innermost identities, desires, and passions should be. So what do we do when our experiences of ourselves don’t match up with our expectations? For many of my clients, this mismatch leads to anxiety, depression, addiction, trauma, high conflict relationships, career setbacks, suicide attempts, out of control sexual behaviors, etc.

In addition to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy, and Existential Therapy, I also use Feminist Therapy, Experiential Therapy, and Poststructural & Postmodern Theory to help clients navigate through their emotions, preconceptions, beliefs, and values around their gender identity, sexual orientation, and behavioral expressions of their desires, fantasies, practices, and lifestyles.
